What You’ll Be Responsible For:
a) Project Management
- Validate mechanical design and technical calculations.
- Review project scope, contracts, specifications, tender clarifications, and other relevant documents to understand the project requirements and identify areas for value engineering and potential risks.
- Collaborate with all stakeholders (Main Contractors, Consultants, Clients, and internal teams) to ensure all project deliverables are met during the engineering, execution, and project closure phases.
- Manage resources and plan execution. Coordinate with Junior Engineers and Supervisors to assess the total material and labor needs, ensuring timely procurement of materials and proper planning/arrangement of labor and subcontractors.
- Monitor site progress and productivity, working with Junior Engineers and Supervisors to track daily productivity, compare it with planned goals, and take corrective actions when necessary.
- Oversee installation and construction work, ensuring high-quality workmanship.
- Optimize the use of internal plant and equipment.
- Coordinate with local authorities when required.
b) Cost Management
- Work with the Quantity Surveyor (QS) to capture all variations and delays, ensuring effective claims are made to enhance the project budget margins.
- Explore and propose value engineering solutions that can benefit all stakeholders while potentially improving the budgeted profit margins.
c) Engineering
- Collaborate with engineers and the drafting team for the submission and approval of shop drawings, monitoring progress using the shop drawing register. Review drawings for quality and adherence to industry standards and project specifications.
- Coordinate with engineers and procurement teams for vendor selection, material submissions, and approvals, tracking progress using the procurement register. Review submissions for quality and compliance.
- Resolve complex technical issues as needed to ensure design and construction progress smoothly.
- Coordinate with electrical and other trades to verify actual equipment loads with IFCs, and report any changes.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest regulations and standards while liaising with authorities for approvals.
d) Quality / Standards & HSE
- Implement internal engineering and construction standards, operating procedures, and templates to ensure consistency in project delivery, engineering, and construction.
- Maintain a “lessons learned” register and share technical knowledge within the organization to stay updated on internal projects, trends, and developments.
- Develop method statements for each activity following project specifications.
- Manage project closeout documentation.
- Ensure compliance with AFE HSE policies by both company and subcontract personnel.
- Actively participate in and support safety and environmental initiatives.
Key Skills for Success:
- Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering design and regulations.
- Expertise in project planning, management, and cost control.
- Proficiency with project development/management software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, MS Project, Primavera).
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- 3-5 years of experience with leading MEP contracting firms.
- At least 3 years of relevant experience in the UAE construction industry.
