Responsibilities:

The primary responsibility of faculty members at the College of Computing and IT is to foster high-quality, innovative learning, engage in applied research, and provide service to the community. Additionally, faculty are expected to work collaboratively with the Department Head, Dean, and fellow colleagues to fulfill the college’s mission, mentor junior faculty and teaching assistants, and support both the department and the college through various administrative and academic services.

Reporting to the Department Head, the successful candidate will be tasked with the development, delivery, and evaluation of a diverse array of courses. Key areas of interest include Computer Systems, Network Systems and Administration, Software-Defined Networking (SDN), Cloud Computing, and Edge Computing. However, candidates with strong expertise in other related fields will also be considered.

Other responsibilities include assessing student progress and managing resources within the learning environment. The successful candidate will establish connections with industry partners and other educational institutions, participate in industry advisory committees, and coordinate, manage, and oversee projects within their designated program area. Faculty members are expected to maintain course portfolio documentation necessary for accreditation processes and engage in instructional development and improvement plans. All employees are anticipated to contribute to professional and community life both within the university and beyond.

Qualifications:

Faculty members will be assigned an appropriate rank based on their education and experience (academic and/or industry). The general criteria are outlined below.

Education:

  • A PhD in a computing-related field such as Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a closely related discipline from an internationally recognized university, along with an undergraduate degree from an accredited institution.

For Assistant Professor:

Experience

  • A minimum of 3 years of teaching experience in a post-secondary, adult training, or industry training environment, coupled with at least 3 years of professional experience in the relevant discipline.
  • A distinguished record of research with an international reputation, demonstrated by high-quality publications in leading journals.
  • An excellent track record of supervising high-caliber research students.
  • Proven leadership in fostering engagement and partnerships with industry and the profession.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional certifications in Computing and Information Technology.
  • A Diploma in Education (e.g., in Post-secondary Education, Adult Education, or Vocational Education) is preferred.
  • Over 6 years of professional experience in the relevant discipline.
  • Teaching experience in a post-secondary, adult training, or industry training environment.
  • Experience in leadership and innovation in technology-based projects.

For Associate Professor:

Experience

  • A minimum of 8 years of teaching experience in a post-secondary, adult training, or industry training environment, along with at least 3 years of professional experience in the relevant discipline.
  • A distinguished research record and international reputation, evidenced by high-quality publications in leading journals.
  • An excellent record of supervising research students.
  • Demonstrated leadership in fostering engagement and partnerships with industry and the profession.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional certifications in Computing and Information Technology.
  • A Diploma in Education (e.g., in Post-secondary Education, Adult Education, or Vocational Education) is preferred.
  • More than 10 years of professional experience in the relevant discipline.
  • Teaching experience in a post-secondary, adult training, or industry training environment.
  • Experience in leadership and innovation in technology-based projects.

Other Required Skills:

  • Extensive knowledge and work experience in various areas of Computing and IT systems.
  • A commitment to applied and experiential learning as a pedagogy and a fundamental aspect of UDST’s mandate.
  • The ability to design, develop, deliver, and assess authentic learning experiences and evaluations, incorporating contemporary tools and resources to enhance content understanding and develop the knowledge, skills, competencies, and attitudes identified in program outcomes.
  • Digital literacy and demonstrated proficiency in technology systems, along with the ability to model and facilitate the use of current and emerging digital tools to support research and learning.
  • A proven ability to create technology-enriched learning environments that encourage students to actively participate in their own learning.
  • A commitment to the effectiveness, vitality, and self-renewal of the teaching profession through self-driven continuous professional development and lifelong learning.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • A collaborative and collegial approach with a demonstrated ability to build rapport with students, colleagues, employers, and community members.
  • The ability to initiate applied research projects.
